A Galeria JUP assume desde o seu início a prioridade às novas propostas no campo das artes, sem condicionalismos vulgares, sendo uma plataforma de activação ao pensamento contemporâneo e ao modo como este pensamento é transmitido ou formado plasticamente.
No projecto mental.physical.temporary estão reunidos oito artistas plásticos com projectos performativos individuais, seguindo a coerência curatorial de acção fora da galeria, no espaço público e em confronto directo com as pessoas. O acto performativo de cada artista pressupõe uma nova abordagem, mantendo as características conceptuais e processuais dos seus mecanismos de produção criativa.
Qual é a razão deste projecto? Quando eu era pequenino, com cerca de três anos, passava os meus dias no quintal dos meus avós. Não estava interessado, de maneira nenhuma, em estar dentro de casa. Brincava na terra com latas velhas e com pedras. As marcas das latas na terra desenhavam percursos que eram alterados em cada dia, pelo vento, pelo cão ou por mim. A história que cada pedra contava era marcadamente singular, espelhando-se orgulhosamente na família quando as juntava numa congénita construção.
Agrada-me a ideia de pensar nessas construções como algo puro e inocente, que surge dum processo mental, que activa a transformação da matéria, num apogeu único e irreversível no tempo. O projecto mental.physical.temporary é algo semelhante.
Porém, pensar em construção mental separadamente de construção física e aliar a isto a existência de tempo, ou de algo que pertence a um determinado tempo, é questionável. Parece-me que devemos olhar para os três pontos e ligá-los com uma linha, perceber que existe uma área delimitada por um triângulo, e é nesse campo que se insere o processo criativo deste projecto. Este espaço de actuação é manifestamente uma área de reflexão e confronto visível no trabalho de André Fonseca, Dalila Vaz, Filipe Garcia, Hugo de Almeida Pinho, João Gigante, Maria Trabulo, Sónia Carvalho e Patrícia Oliveira.
O interesse do mental.physical.temporary deambula entre a banalidade do fazer e a erudição do mostrar, ou vice-versa, pois por mais que o artista esteja empenhado, de nada vale se não encontrar o mesmo empenho no “observador”.
Since the beginning, without vulgar constraints, Galeria JUP takes as a priority new proposals in the artistic field. It serves as a platform to the activation of the contemporary thought and the way it is plastically transmitted or formed.
In the mental.physical.temporary project there are eight artists that get together with individual performative pieces, following the curatorial coherence of action out of the gallery, in public space and in direct confrontation with the public sphere. The performative act of each artist requires a new approach, but always maintaining the conceptual and procedural characteristics of their creative mechanisms.
What is the nature of this project? When I was little, about three years old, I used to spend my days at my grandparents’ backyard. I had no interest at being indoors, so I played on the floor with old cans and stones. The marks left on the ground by the cans created drawings that were changed every day by the wind, the dog or my will. The story that every stone told was markedly unique and when I joined all of those in a natural construction I could see my pride reflected in my family.
I like to think of these constructions as something pure and naive that arises from a mental process and enables the matter, as single height irreversible in time, to transform. The mental.physical.temporary project is something similar.
However, thinking about mental construction separately to the physical construction and adding to them the existence of time, or something that belongs to a certain time, is questionable. It seems to me that we must look at these three points, connect them with a line, understanding that there is an area in between bounded by a triangle. The creative process of the project falls within this area. This acting space is clearly an area of ??confrontation and reflection, evident in the work of André Fonseca, Dalila Vaz, Filipe Garcia, Hugo de Almeida Pinho, João Gigante, Maria Trabulo, Patrícia Oliveira and Sónia Carvalho.
The interest of mental.physical.temporary wanders between the banality of doing and the mastery of showing, or the other way around, because as much as the artist is committed, it is worth nothing if he does not find the same commitment in the "observer".
